Marian Hills Open, Ryder Cup among 2019 Tournaments

Malta’s beautiful Marian Hills Golf Course has a dozen events listed for the 2019 golf season.

This Saturday, June 22, kicks off the open tournament season as Marian Hills is scheduled to host the Ladies and Gents Tournament, a mixed doubles event. It’s an event where teams consisting of one man and one woman play three rounds in three different formats.

“The great thing about these events is that they get people out on the course,” said Cory Shelhamer of Marian Hills Golf Course. “We have quite the facility out here.”

Though Marian Hills is gaining a reputation as one of Montana’s best kept secrets according to the crew at Marian Hills, the public facility is very casual and inviting.

“It’s good for beginners and those at any other stage of their golf career,” Course owner Jane Ereaux said.

The course just wrapped up the first half of Junior Golf Camp, an event set up by Malta Parks and Recreation. The Golf Course has become more intentional about hosting youth events to help show the community that golf can also be a family affair.

Marian Hills recently agreed to host a Junior High and High School Camp scheduled for Monday, July 15 through Wednesday, July 17.

“At Marian Hills, because we are in a small community, we have to grow our golfers and one of the ways that we do that is through Junior Golf Camp,” Shelhamer said.

The Junior Camp consisting of students in third through fifth grade hosted 30 students and this year’s group is projected to surpass that amount, according to Ereaux.

One of the newest events on the schedule is the Malta Educational Association (MEA) Scholarship Fund Raiser Tournament, which is set to take place on Saturday, June 29. The event is a four person scramble event, that aims to help raise funds for a $1,000 scholarship.

The Third Annual Malta Athletic Club Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 6. The event serves as a fundraiser to help the club with scholarships and also gives it’s members a chance to participate in the event.

Scheduled for Saturday, July 20, The Phillips County Insurance and First Security Bank Tournament has been one of the course’s longest running events. Though the event features teams from PCI and First Security Bank, the Tournament is open for all teams that wish to participate. For more information on the event please contact Ross Simser at Phillips County Insurance.

The only event truly sponsored by Marian Hills Golf Course is the 2019 Annual Marian Hills Open Tournament. The Open is set for Saturday, July 27 through Sunday, July 28.

The Annual Ryder Cup Women’s Tournament, an event that features a Malta team and Glasgow team is set for Saturday, August 17. The Men’s Ryder Cup will take place in Glasgow this year.

The Men’s Club Championship Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, August 18.

The First State Bank & Ezzie’s Wholesale Tournament is the courses oldest continuously running event. The tournament is the last scheduled event for Marian Hills Golf Course and is set to take place on Sunday, August 25.
