Lt. Mason Janes is prisoner in Germany
Second Lt. Mason Janes, reported missing in action over Germany as of June 9, is a prisoner of the German government, according to information received by his brother, Lonnie Janes, of Malta.
Lt. Janes, B-24 Liberator navigator with the 15th Air Force, received his commission the day before he was reported missing. He is the son of Mrs. Lou Proctor, formerly of Malta.
Lt. Janes left Malta with Co. D of the Montana National Guard. He later transferred to the Army Air Corps and won his wings. He has received the Air Medal twice and two Oak Leaf Clusters since he went overseas in February of this year.
Mexican workers being placed for summer
About 250 Mexican Nationals, who were brought into the Chinook factory district for work in the Milk River Valley sugar beet fields, have been placed on farms and ranches in the area for the period between July 15 and September 15.
These men will be available for sugar beet harvesting operations.

287 children and 24 adults in summer rec programs
The summer recreation program has nearly 287 children in the six to 18 age group participating and 24 adults, it was reported this week by the recreation committee.
There are 115 boys involved in the baseball program. About 90 girls are participating in the summer recreation program. Most of them are taking part in an hour of twirling and an hour of recreation and archery.
Presently there are approximately 115 youngsters and 24 adults enrolled in swimming lessons.

Drew Brewer: No, because scientists haven't found any that are headed toward earth.
Cindy Clark: No, I'm not too concerned about it.
Veronica Matte: I never really thought about it, but yes, if there were one heading our way, I'd be concerned.
Rod Boland: No, if it hits, it does, and if it doesn't, it doesn't. No use worrying about it.

Local student named DAC Scholar-Athlete
Jamestown (N.D.) College student Jacy Depuydt of Whitewater was named DAC Track and Field Scholar-Athlete for the spring semester by the Dakota Athletic Conference. Student-athletes with a semester grade point average of 3.25 or high qualify.
