Brew-versary at Blue Ridge

Another day at the office ... Brian and Brianna Shores plan for the day and for their upcoming 1st "Brew-versary " at their Blue Ridge Brewing in Malta.

In just 365 days, or so, Malta's Blue Ridge Brewing has churned out 116 barrels of beer, or nearly 232 kegs, or nearly 30,000 pints matter how you pour it, Brian and Brianna Shores are tickled pink, or blue, about how well their first year in business went.

"We hoped we would do this well," Brian said.

"We were holding our breath and crossing our fingers," Brianna added.

To celebrate their first year in business, Brian, Brianna, and all the gang at Blue Ridge Brewing are inviting everyone to the brewery for a celebration as a way to say thank you for everyone who has helped the couple realize their dream of owning a brewhouse. On Friday, July 26, Blue Ridge Brewing will host the "1-Year Brewversary" starting from 4 to 8 p.m. complete with door prizes, and giveaways, food available for purchase from local vendors Ray J's BBQ and Side Hustle Food Truck, as well as live music from Iowa's Larry Myer.

"We had a chance to hear Larry when we attended Octoberfest in Whitefish at a lodge," Brian said. "He plays both covers and originals, and when we saw him, he played a lot of Neil Young, Jefferson Starship, Tom Petty and that type of music. He is a one-man-band, plays the guitar and harmonica, and sings, and is really good. He will play from 5 to 8 and is really cool, and something unique people will really enjoy."

During their first year of business, Brian and Brianna have hosted, on average, one live musical performance per month and hope to host even more as time goes on, including Christine Haynes on the 10th of August. The Brewery also hosts trivia nights on Thursdays, have added a pizza oven, and held the first annual Malta Beer Run in conjunction with the City of Malta Parks and Rec division.

Currently, Blue Ridge Brewing has eight beers on tap including Elk Shed IPA, Summer Kolsch, and Camel Head brown ale and Brian has something special in brewing right now with a new Chipotle Porter which he hopes to have ready for October (the beer needs to age for three months.) Blue Ridge Brewing has a total of six-part time employees after starting with just two and will also be a sponsor at the upcoming Knights of Columbus BBQ competition on August 17 and the annual Malta Trails Brewfest. The "1-Year Brewversary" is the Shores' way of thanking the community for all the support and help they have received as they follow their brewing dreams.

"We have been really fortunate that the community has embraced us and that we have been as busy as we have," Brian said.

"Thanks to everyone who has supported us, it means so much," Brianna said. "We hope everyone comes out and helps us celebrate our first year."
