'Standard Flower Show' at P.C. Fair

The Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club is proud to announce a Standard Flower Show will be part of the upcoming Phillips County Fair to be held in Dodson, Montana August 1-4, 2019.

“Bursting in Blooms” Phillips County FAIR (F=flower show, A=animals, I=individual ribbons, and R=rides) will accept entries from any amateur gardener or designer on Thursday, August 1st from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Booth on the fairgrounds and everyone is invited to participate.

Flower Show Chairwomen Sharon Miller and Jane Ereaux along with committee members have worked to coordinate the show with the county fair officials and traditional premium monies paid. According to Ereaux "If you enter the flower show, you are entered in the fair, it’s a great partnership and we appreciate the support from the Fair Board.”

Participants can utilize either the Open Class Premium Book or the Garden Club booklet for entry guidelines and rules. Department H Division I Horticulture “Garden Beauties” section includes traditional exhibits for cut flower specimens (such as petunias, zinnias, lilies, sunflowers and more). Division 1, Section 2 Horticulture “Show Stoppers” includes roses of almost every variety and color.

Division II is the Design Division “Fair with Flair” and includes designs in several categories made from plant materials, fresh or dried as specified for each design. No artificial flowers, fruit or foliage are permitted. Sections I includes Petite Awards “Little Wonders, Section 2 Designers Choice Award “A Carnival” and Section 3 Tri-Color Award “A Colorful World” each with three individual classes for entries.

Division III, Botanical Arts “Creativity at its Best” includes two sections with classes for a wreath, summer hat, a Tussie Mussie, Cactus or succulent dish garden, dish, fairy or terrarium garden.

Division IV, Youth “Great Imagination” includes creative design by youth and includes classes titled Derby Cars, Off to the Races and Animals on Parade. Division V, Education “Sharing Knowledge” may be the work of more than one individual or an organization.

Details and rules for each class are included in the premium or garden club book – everyone is also encouraged to “ask a garden club member” or consider joining members at a special flower arranging workshop on Wednesday, July 31st starting at 4 p.m. on the patio of member Anne Boothe. Bursting in Blooms meets the National Garden Club Standard Show criteria. Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club is a member of the Hi-Line District of the Montana Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Rocky Mountain Region of the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
