AMX slated for 104th PC Fair

The 104th Annual Phillips County Fair will host AMX Racing on Saturday, August 3, at noon.

"You can expect fast cars, you can expect drivers from beginner to expert," said Frank Kindle Vice President of the Dodson AMX Speedway group. "People put time and money in their cars and it shows. You will see rollovers. You will see bumping and racing. You will see tempers flare and it's all a part of the show."

The event will mark the second race of 2019 for the Dodson AMX Speedway group, and possibly it's biggest event of the year.

"In a normal race you may get 100 spectators and at the Fair we might be pushing the 500-600 mark, which is awesome for us," Kindle said.

The track set inside the PC Fair's Grandstands is about 5/8 of a mile and features a few turns, bends, and obstacles.

"We put up a tabletop last year," Kindle said. "We have s-corners, on the west side we have have a hairpin corner, a straight away that goes into the arena and then it goes into a big sweep and a 180 corner."

The cars featured in the AMX races are modified and stripped stock cars that have stock suspension with two more shocks per wheel, aggressive dirt tires, roll cages, and fuel cells.

"We have netting to keep the rocks from hitting us in the face while we are driving," Kindle said.

At last years' Fair race the group hoped to land 30 drivers and ended up with 32. This year, the goal is the same; to field 30 racers, who will compete for grouping in the Super Stock and Stock A, B, and C races.
