MEA holds fundraiser

Though it threatened to rain, the First Annual MEA (Malta Educational Association) Scholarship Golf Scramble Tournament took place on Sunday, September 8.

The MEA is comprised of a group of 19 teachers from Malta Public Schools, who put the fundraiser together to help students that may eventually share the same vocation.

“We are raising money for a $1,000 scholarship for a high school senior that is pursuing a degree in education,” MEA Secretary and MES Second Grade Teacher Kendra Veit told the PCN. “Today is the fundraiser to provide funds for that scholarship.”

Being that this is the first MEA event at the Marian Hills Golf Course, Veit shared her thoughts of the venue.

“We are excited that Marian Hills Golf Course is allowing us to host this tournament,” Veit said. “We are excited to have such a great turnout in our first fundraising golf tournament.”

The tournament consisted of 11 four-person teams, who played in team scramble format, using the best hit ball in every stroke. The tournament also featured hole prizes for every hole, 50-50 raffle, and silent auctions.

The event was won by the team consisting of Greg Ziegler, Amanda Ziegler, Shane Anderson, and Jenifer Anderson.

Second place went to Gordon Webb, Kate Webb, Kori Kindle, and Cohen Ereaux.

Third place went to Kevin Ebert, Travis Somerfeld, Karey Bishop, and Kaden Bishop.
