One Nation, Under God

American Legion Post 57 News

As the Thanksgiving Day gatherings are over and the Christmas season festivities approach, American Legion Post 57 (and other Veterans Associations) gratuitously gives thanks to the community for its support of our goals and the monetary help in our donations to community functions.

Many people see the combined Legion, VFW, and Sons of the American Legion members as we provide Honor Guard duties at a veteran’s funeral, and/or at other various patriotic events: but we also support many other projects.

Like in many earlier years, this past year the Post supported the Boys and Girls Club, shooting sports, Legion Baseball, Boys State program, donated to several school group travel expenses, provided financial help or doctor appointment rides for veterans, and provided patriotic day programs to both the elementary and high school.

To support these goals, we hold the spring garage sale and one yearly raffle. This year the raffle winners will be drawn on December 17th at 7 p.m., get your tickets at the VFW or from a Legion member.

Please inform any veterans of the holiday party on January 11 at the VFW where (like last year) an excellent meal of prime rib will be served for $30.00. Door prizes for that function have been bought from our local merchants by money provided by each local veteran’s association.

Some of our goals upcoming are to get the last Memorial monument designed and installed at Veterans Park, continue updating the cemetery lists and mark locations of unmarked veterans. A potential Phillips County Veterans Memorial wall or bricking is being researched by the SAL Squadron 57. Happy Holidays.
