Lady Coyotes Basketball 2019-20

Lady Coyotes start season 2-0, with changes

The Dodson Lady Coyotes went through some changes in the off-season, as the team is under new direction for the 2019-20 season, while Coach Deserae KillEagle takes a year away from basketball.

The Lady Coyotes will be led by Head Coach Frank Benson, who will be doing double duty this season as coach of the boy's team and girls team. He is joined by Assistant Coach Francine KillEagle, who has served in that position for years.

The team is also without two of three All-Conference athletes as point guard Kailee Henry transferred to Harlem and Ella Messerly, a sharpshooting two-guard, transferred to Hays-LogePole.

Last year's team finished 9-14 and punched their ticket to divisionals, after placing third at the 3C District tournament.

Despite losing talent, Dodson retained plenty of experience for this season, including Christina Jaynes, a senior that earned first team All-Conference Honors in 2019.

"Christina is one of the hardest working and most dedicated players a coach could ask for," Coach Kill Eagle said of Jaynes last season. "Christina led our team with rebounds and was one of the top leaders for steals this year as well. She is a team player and gets out there every night to get done what needs to be done and leaves it all on the floor."

Dodson also welcomes back freshman Lindsey Fetter, who saw plenty of starting time last season.

The team also welcomes back Melony Fetter. During her eighth grade and freshman seasons M. Fetter, now a junior, was a leader on the court for Dodson. M. Fetter was a part of a Harlem Wildcat team, who won the Northern B title last season.

Tiffany Cliff, a junior, also returns to the court. During her eighth grade and freshman season, Cliff was known for her defensive prowess and speed.

Junior Ireland Best and sophomore Serena Chandler also returned this season, both providing strength in the paint.

The team also welcomes Kataya KillEagle and eighth-grader who already had showcased her talents this season, scoring 15 in the team's 44-37 win over Browning's JV.

In Dodson's 49-41 win over Box Elder, the Lady Coyotes were led by Christina Jaynes, who scored 20 points and had 15 rebounds. Box Elder is the two-time defending Class C State Champion.

The team hasn't talked about goals yet, but Coach Benson knows that they hope to compete with and beat North Country, as well as advance to divisionals and state.
