One Nation, Under God

Come down to the HLRC and give back to the Greatest Generation

Dear Editor,

Our community has much to be thankful for, of which would be our senior citizens at our senior center, the Hi-Line Retirement Center (HLRC). We are what we are because of what our seniors worked so hard for all their lives. It is because of our senior citizens that our community has such strong values.

So during their “winter years,” let’s not forget about them. Just a visit means so much to them, be it a few minutes or a couple of hours. I remember my husband’s grandparents loved it when we would drop by on our way to and from events. I’m sure they would have loved a longer visit but were delighted just the same when we stopped in.

HLRC could use volunteers. Come have a cup of coffee and share stories of “old times” with residents. Share your musical talents, read a story with or to them, or just listen to them stories. Several have expressed an interest in cards ——Rummy, Pinochle, Whist, Canasta, or Cribbage. Cooking, quilting, and needlework would be worthy projects. A men's group would be a nice addition to our facility also. Grooming activates such as manicures are much needed as well. I am currently working on humor activity, Laugh-in, and could use help with this, as humor plays such an important role in all of our lives. I would also like to initiate a “children’s hour” to include inter-generational time for both groups.

Experience what our residents have to offer. Come share yourselves with our valuable senior citizens, “The Greatest Generation.”

We would like to take this time to thank all of you who currently volunteer in our facility, and share there many talents with our residents. Please keep in mind that just being present is a huge present to our resident’s lives. Your gifts of time, talents, and resources are appreciated more than you will ever know.

For more information or to volunteer, call 654-1190 ext. 115 and thank you.

Judy M. Henry
