Malta Public Schools Board Meeting Recap

The first Malta School Board meeting of 2020 was quick, to the point, and mostly focused on upcoming events at the three schools as well as an update in a room at the elementary school that took place over Winter Break.

A newly remodeled dishwashing station was completed in the Malta Elementary School over the winter break and sports new tiles in a blue and white Malta theme and local business Art's Furniture and Carpet donated the tile for the project.

"Art's Furniture donated the blue tile to remodel the dishwashing station at the school and then Jay Boardman and his crew from Fuzz Carnahan Construction completed the work over winter break," Malta Public Schools Superintendent Kris Kuehn told the PCN. "The remodel provides a brighter, cleaner, and more sanitary workspace for the elementary kitchen staff."

During her Malta Elementary School Principal's report, Principal Cadance Wipplinger informed the Board of Trustees that the Missoula Children's Theatre would be in town over the week - a cast of over 50 students would put on two performances of the play "Snow Queen" on Friday and Saturday - and announced that on January 27 the school would be hosting Chinook's Peggy Perry, an MBI representative, who will give a presentation called "Love and Logic for Parents" free to the public.

"It is for educators and parents," Principal Wipplinger said. "We will have free babysitting provided by the Builder's Club kids so parents can actually attend and listen."

Principal Wipplinger said the time the event will start would either be 5:30 or 6 p.m., but added she would know soon and announce it.

Principal Wipplinger also said that a representative from the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center - who mainly focuses on Grizzly Bears - will be coming to the elementary school, and the science fair is scheduled for February 18.

Malta Middle School Principal Shawn Bleth reported that the Eighth Grade Ski trip is tentatively scheduled for April 3 and no make-up date has been scheduled for the annual Ice Fishing Trip hosted by the Malta Walleyes and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. Principal Bleth said that the Middle School Boys Basketball is underway, coached by Zach Handley and Aaron DeVries and is comprised of 11 students.

In Malta High School news, Kaitlyn Smith was hired as the head Track and Field coach at the Tuesday night meeting.

Malta High School Principal Tracy Fisher announced that the 2019-20 high school graduation ceremony would be held on Sunday, May 17. Principal Fisher said that the next Northeastern Arts Performance at Malta High School will be on Monday, February 3, when Seffarine - a duo formed by singer Lamiae Naki and oud player/flamenco guitarist Nat Hulskamp - takes the Malta Auditorium stage at 7 p.m.
