One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for January 15, 2020

Again, sympathy to all victims of the many wars. Pray for peace.

Sympathy to victims (both people and animals) of the fire in Australia. It is so sad.

Back in Whitewater, happy birthday and anniversary to all celebrating in January 2020, including Patty Young.

And again, Happy New Year 2020.

Thanks to the Secret Santa who sent me a gift. It was very nice of you. And thanks to all who gave me gifts.

Recently, I got a surprise phone call from a friend Shirly Friesen of Waymark, Sask., Canada. Shirly was telling me of all the refugees – mostly from Afghanistan – who are fleeing to Canada. Shirly is helping them, as is the Canadian government. Immigrants need help getting food, finding housing and getting jobs, as well as help learning the language. It is wonderful that the Canadian government, led by Mr. Trudeau, welcomes foreign refugees. Salute to Shirly and other citizens of Canada who help others acclimate from foreign countries around the world.

Congratulations to newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Kalvin Reichelt! They were married at a town between Livingstone and Bozeman. Attending the wedding from Whitewater were family Sally Austin, Jean Green, and the groom’s parents Curt and Janice Reichelt. As a side note, Kalvin attended Whitewater High School and his bride starred at the Fort Peck Theatre last summer! Congrats to them!

Get well wishes to my friend Anita from Glasgow. Anita was a cousin of the late Albert Flansaas. He resided in Loring and Malta for many years and we so musically gifted, especially with the violin and fiddle. (I used to accompany him on the piano when he would play the violin.) Anyway, Anita sent me a tribute to Albert, a picture and words to “The Touch of the Master’s Hand” and it is beautiful. Thanks to Anita for recognizing his talents. Salute to all musicians.

In Whitewater, we have snow and a full moon. It gives off a light that reflects off the snow and looks beautiful. It sure does brighten the cold winter nights.

Whitewater Lutheran Church will have their Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 19. Church is at 11:15 a.m. with potluck and meeting following the service.

Keep warm.

Helen A.
