One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for January 29, 2020

1-22. U.S. politics is in such chaos. Let’s hope 2020 will improve everything. Some one asked me, “what’s your political preference?” Answer: I am a Democrat!

What are you folks?

Again, Happy New Year to all including Patty Young of Whitewater.

There was a birthday party for Patty at Senior Meals at the North 40. Also, happy birthday to Howard Berg. He is a Whitewater pioneer and the last of the Bergs in the Whitewater area. Gladys Berg (Howard’s mom who has passed away) was the cook at the Whitewater Schools for almost 50 years. She won statewide honors for her cooking and she had a lovely personality. When I attended Whitewater Schools and was an assistant to our Home-Ec teacher, I would often cook in the lunchroom with Gladys for up to an hour per day. She would have been the Home-Ec teacher, I think. We still all remember Gladys.

There were basketball games at Whitewater High School. The games at WHS were with Dodson. Pierre Bibbs, Phillips County News Sports Editor, was at the game taking pictures and reporting on the scores.

Dinner was served at the school as well as concessions. There was also a silent auction which are fun and Whitewater has a great, supportive community.

Jeanie Green went to Miles City for basketball games played by her grandchildren.

The weather in Whitewater is cold (below zero) and typical for this time of year in Montana. Ranchers are keeping busy feeding cattle so a big “shout out” to them.

Dress warm everyone.

1-29. It’s sad that our great USA has to go through the impeachment of the president. It is bad for all of us.

There were basketball games in Whitewater at the school on January 21. The Malta girls played followed by the boys. Congratulations to all the players, including Jon and Seth Siewing.

Also, congratulations to the area’s wrestlers including Keenen LaBrie. The teams competed in Havre last weekend. Some went to tournaments.

Several ladies from Whitewater attended a Lady’s Church meeting at the Saco Assembly Church. They said it was a nice meeting and a delicious dinner.

Whitewater Lutheran Church had an annual council meeting and potluck on Sunday. It was well attended also.

Whitewater Baptist Church meets Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Pastor and Mrs. Bergess preach.

Note: thanks for the gift certificate from the Siewings to Sleeping Buffalo. Also, thanks to Patty and Steve for the North 40 certificates. Gift certificates are great for everyone.

“Goodbye” and “God bless” and return soon to Ree Simonson. She went to Arizona for the winter as she is a “snowbird.”

If anyone had news, please call me at 406-674-5576 and let it ring. Or, you can write to me.

The weather in Whitewater has been so cold. However, it warmed up; I was glad as I went to Havre yesterday, I met my friend, Irene Wendalyn, a former resident of Whitewater. We had a nice visit and lunch.

Will the groundhog see his shadow on February 2?

Take care.

Helen A.
