Mustangs fall to Wolves, Blue Ponies

The Malta Mustangs Basketball team was unable to pick up a win last weekend, falling to the Wolf Point Wolves and then to the Havre Blue Ponies.

The team has now lost five straight, battling injuries along the way.

The Mustangs are scheduled to host the Rocky Boy Morning Stars on Friday, February 7, at 6 p.m. hoping to avenge a 65-51 loss that Rocky Boy handed them on Friday, January 10, in Rocky Boy. Malta will also face the Roundup Panthers who defeated the Mustangs 51-46 on Saturday, January 11. The game against Roundup is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, at 4 p.m.

In Malta’s 60-56 loss to the Wolf Point Wolves last Thursday, January 30, the Mustangs were led by Connor Tuss, who had 18 points. Kooper Oxarart had 14 points, Tanner Smith had eight points, Kanyon Stiles had six points, Ben Costin had four points and Pierce Mortenson had four points.

In the Mustangs’ 59-42 loss to Havre last Saturday, February 1, the Mustangs jumped ahead 13-10 at the conclusion of the first period, but the team was outpaced 20-7 in the second quarter and then 14-7 in the third. Both teams put up fifteen in the fourth period.
