FULL-TIME DEPUTY SHERIFF

The Phillips County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications to create a hiring pool from which successful applicants will be chosen to fill vacancies. We currently have one opening for a FULL-TIME DEPUTY SHERIFF. Applications will be accepted until position is filled.

Duties for a Deputy Sheriff include crime prevention, investigating crimes, traffic patrol, drug interdiction, among other law enforcement related duties. Applicants must possess the following qualifications:

Must be a United States citizen

Must have a High School diploma or GED

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Montana Driver's License

Must not have a felony conviction

Must be of good moral character as determined by a thorogh background investigation

Must pass medical and mental health evaluations

Possession of current P.O.S.T. Basic certification preferred but not necessary to apply. Within one year of hire, must be able to successfully complete the MLEA Basic course and receive P.O.S.T. Basic certification. Applicants will be expected to travel to Malta, MT for psychological testing as well as interviews.

Benefits include 100% premiums paid for medical insurace for employee and family, vacation/sick pay, and annual longevity pay increases. Starting wage is $18.40/hour with 5% increase upon completing one year of probation.

Minimum Qualifications: Equivalent to a Bachelors’ degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, public administration, business administration or a related field is preferred. Supplement education by specialized training in preferred fields desired but not necessary. Previous responsible experience in engineering, and/or construction, and/or operation and maintenance of water supply or irrigation systems is desired. Previous supervisory experience desired.

Job Summary: Responsible for the effective direction, operation and control of the key activities of MID, including: irrigation operations, financial operations, governmental affairs, human resource administration and public information activities. Administer the water right and manage the operation, maintenance, improvement and replacement of MIDs’ infrastructure which includes storage, carriage, distribution and drainage systems necessary for the irrigation of 44,500+ acres. Work is directed by the Board of Commissioners and as influenced by the Bureau of Reclamation and the laws of the State of Montana. Job includes the supervision of 8-12 employees.
