Local infantryman becomes bazooka sharpshooter

With the 78th Infantry Division in Germany - learning to handle a bazooka is considered a job that takes considerable study and application, but Pvt. John W. Baum, a reinforcement recently assigned to Company B of the 309th Infantry Regiment, proved that some soldiers can become familiar with this weapon after a short period of instruction.

Pvt. Baum, whose sister, Mrs. Helen B. Schurr, lives in Malta, jumped into the break when his unit needed an assistant for the regular bazooka operator. His Platoon sergeant gave him instruction while the unit was under fire on the battlefield. Then he turned Pvt. Baum loose. Bunnie McAuley: I'm afraid charging them to come into the country will hurt our economy.
