Pastor Joe Haney and his wife Colleen are new faces in Malta at Grace Fellowship Church. Pastor Haney will be formally installed at Grace Fellowship on March 21.

C. Pehlke missing in Philippine action
Pvt. Clifford Pehlke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Pehlke of Forks, has been missing in action in the Philippines since Jan. 22 according to the War Department.
Pvt. Pehlke was serving in a tank corps and has seen action in several major engagements in the Pacific Theatre of War.
He was born 26 years ago, attended Forks School and graduated from Whitewater High School.
Editor's Note: Pvt. Pehlke is listed as one of a total 421 Montana service personnel from Montana not recovered following WWII (the list is made of a total 72,632 American service personnel not recovered from WWII.)
Local infantryman becomes bazooka sharpshooter
With the 78th Infantry Division in Germany - learning to handle a bazooka is considered a job that takes considerable study and application, but Pvt. John W. Baum, a reinforcement recently assigned to Company B of the 309th Infantry Regiment, proved that some soldiers can become familiar with this weapon after a short period of instruction.
Pvt. Baum, whose sister, Mrs. Helen B. Schurr, lives in Malta, jumped into the break when his unit needed an assistant for the regular bazooka operator. His Platoon sergeant gave him instruction while the unit was under fire on the battlefield. Then he turned Pvt. Baum loose. It was none too soon for a machine gun began laying harassing fire on the platoon. Private Baum went out with bazooka and silenced the enemy gun with one round.
Mustangs win 9 of 17 games
A large number of basketball fans are expected to leave for Glasgow to attend the annual district Class B tournament which opens tomorrow at the Civic Center to watch the Mustangs play Frazier in the second game.
The Mustangs have played 17 basketball games this season and have put up a total point of 505 against their opponents' total of 479. They have won nine games under coach George Moore.

Five Mustangs head to state
The Malta Mustang Wrestling Team placed third at the Class B-C Northern Division wrestling tournament last week in Lewistown.
A total of five Malta wrestlers qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament in Havre this week. They are Mike Kaufman, Darrell Olson, Lee Koss, Bim Oxarart, and Fred Perry.
Mustangs conference basketball champs with perfect won-loss record
The Malta Mustangs are conference basketball champs in District 4B. They concluded the conference schedule last weekend with a perfect 14-0 record. The defeat of big Sandy and Cascade last week brought the 1969-70 undefeated record to 20 wins.
This weekend the Mustangs invade the territory of the strong southern division. They will meet Huntley Project on Friday night and Roundup on Saturday for the last regular season clashes before the district tournament in Havre.
Speech and Debate Team won third in Billings meet
The Malta High School Speech and Drama Team attended the Magic City Invite Speech and Drama Meet in Billings and brought home the Speech Sweepstakes Trophy and third place overall at the competition.
A total of 18 Malta students reached the finals competition out of the 26 members of the team who attended and Terrianne Jacobson was first in overall competition while Tim Nelson was first in overall competition in the memorized public address event.

Bunnie McAuley: I'm afraid charging them to come into the country will hurt our economy.
Melvin Hanson: Well, I think he'd better get together with Canadian officials and work something out.
Dorothy Granlund: We sting them enough already with the difference in our money.

Lady Panthers dominate District 3C Tourney
For one quarter Friday night, it looked like the Saco-Whitewater girls might have their hands full.
The first period of their District 3C Tournament semifinal matchup in Malta with the Hinsdale Raiders ended in a 4-4 tie. Were the Lady Panther's, who finished the regular season unbeaten in 3C play, becoming vulnerable?
Harldy.
Saco-Whitewater ran away from the Raiders 195- in the second on their way to a 46-14 win to capture their second straight 3C title with a 73-33 victory over Opheim.
Annie DePuydt, Justinn Marshall, Leah Olson, and Jessica Davis each scored 12-points in the championship game. Macey Cox scored 11.
