Mrs. C. Weikle had retired president of the Malta Woman's Club and Mrs. O. W. McDowell, wife of the superintendent of the Malta Schools, was elected to succeed her. Mrs. James LeNoir was elected vice president; Mrs. Harrison Brown, corresponding secretary; Mrs. F. W. Hall, treasurer, and Mrs. Harry Whitcomb, auditor.

Undersheriff Wolf and Jailer McNeil made a haul of bootleg liquor north of town from Charles Logan who was later released under $500 bond. The liquor confiscated included a keg and several smaller containers full.

John Olson, section foreman at Saco, was killed when the rail motor speeder was struck by a passenger train a short distance out of town.
E. A. Parker, who had been employed as a linotype operator for the Enterprise, left for Salt Lake City. Editor Johnson was of the opinion that Mr. Parker would return as he had filed on a claim in the Bowdoin community.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Barnes had returned from Florida where they spent the winter.

The City of Malta election was a very tame affair with no opposition for any office. John Survant was elected mayor; Al Winkler, alderman from the first ward and Ellis Blumenthal, alderman from the second ward. Lyman Barnes was elected city treasurer and Mrs. H. M. Kirton, police magistrate. The election of Mrs. Kirton made her the first woman police magistrate elected in the state of Montana.

Leonard Schempp of the Freewater community was back after having served in Germany with the army occupation.

Dodson had approved a bond issue to improve the electric system and install a sanitary sewer system.

Malta couple wed in Havre ceremony
Miss Catherine Oxarart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Oxarart of Content, and Ivan Blatter, son of Gottlieb Blatter of Chinook, were married Friday evening of last week by Rec. Anderson, pastor of the Havre Lutheran Church.

'Old Gang' enjoys turkey dinner
The "Old Gang" of 35 neighbors and friends met at the Heberlee home for a turkey dinner on Easter Sunday.
Those present were Mr. and Mrs. George Aikins of Whitewater, Miss Rachel Schmearer of Loring, Mrs. Holmes from Lovejoy, Mr. and Mrs. B. Stubblefield and family, Harry Mason, George Morrison, Mrs. Wayne Stiles and son, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Lovejoy and son, Glen, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Stine, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Simms and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Risen, Add Henderson, Billy, and Jimmie Dunnigan and Mr. and Mrs. Henderson and family.

Wayne Stiles is killed at Corregidor
Pfc. Wayne A. Stiles, the husband of Mrs. Justine Mason Stiles of Loring, was killed at Corregidor in the Phillippines on Feb. 17.
Private Stiles was serving in the 34th Infantry Division and had been in the army four and a half years after going overseas in 1944.
He was born at Muskegon, Mich., Aug. 26, 1911, and was married to Justine Mason, daughter of Harry Mason of Loring, on Feb. 18, 1943. He is survived by his widow and 15-month-old son, Douglas Jay.
Pvt. Trottier is wounded in battle
Pvt. Everett (Sonny) Trottier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Trottier of Malta, was wounded in action in Germany on March 13.
No details were received as of the nature of the wound. Trottier completed his third year in Malta High School before his induction into the army and was a basketball letterman.

Local ranchers gave livestock to boys ranch
Fourteen calves, three sheep, one house and $25 in cash were given to the Yellowstone Boys Ranch in Billings from Phillips County during the livestock roundup.
Those who contributed are Leo Barthelmess, Loyal "Slim" Boyce, Duane Compton, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Cotter, Hotchkiss Ranch, Inc., Mrs. Effa Kelly, Lynn Kelly, Dave LaFond, Oxarart Brothers, F. Lee Robinson, Bill Row, and Jack Smith, all of Malta; Tommy Fisher, Knudson Brothers, Clarence Pippin, and "Timber" Woods, all of Saco; the Matador Ranch of Dodson, and Bill Murdock of Loring.
Sen. Mansfield pays this area a surprise visit
The majority leader of the United States Senate, Senator Mike Mansfield of Montana, paid a surprise visit to Malta last Friday night and spoke to a group of prominent democrats in the Lobby dining room that evening

MHS names top students of '95
Jeri Grensten has earned the right to be recognized as the valedictorian of the Malta High School Class of 1995 and rating second and named salutatorian is Stephanie Koss.
Jeri is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Grensten of Malta and Stephanie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Koss, also of Malta.

KillEagle claims mixed martial arts heavy weight belt with win in Sidney
Phillips County now claims its first heavy weight champion.
Wesley KillEagle Jr., of Dodson earned the Ultimate Showdown Academy heavyweight title in Sidney Saturday, April 3, by defeating Keith Nordlund of Sidney in the mixed martial arts battle.
KillEagle fights for the Round Table Fight Club out of Malta.
