Gianforte speaks about CARES relief with Malta merchants

Congressman Greg Gianforte (R-Mont.) teamed up with the Malta Area Chamber of Commerce last Thursday in a conference call to discuss the CARES Act which passed both the US Senate and House and was signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 27.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Provides direct cash payments to families and workers, expands unemployment, and provides relief for student loan payments; Assists small business so they can stay in business and keep paying workers, Sends $340 billion to the front lines of the coronavirus fight, with more than 80 percent of funding going to state and local governments, and Takes care of providers and patients with increased access to care, tests, and supplies.

“There is economic relief that is being made available to individuals, small businesses, and families to make sure that we come through this crisis and so that small businesses and families can get back on their feet and back to form of normalcy,” Rep. Gianforte said. “We are in a crisis situation. We are in a public health crisis like we have never faced before.”

Rep. Gianforte said he was told by U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin that individual stimulus checks, some up to $1,200, would start to be dispersed this week and said the CARES Act and stressed that business feeling the crunch of lost income during the COVID-19 pandemic visit the Small Business Administration’s Coronavirus (COVID-19): Small Business Guidance & Loan Resources website to learn more about SBA loan and debt relief options.

“The headline message I want to communicate is ‘Montanans are resilient’,” Rep. Gianforte said. “We have never faced a crisis like this before but we are going to get through it.”

Rep. Gianforte said his State Director, Lesly Robinson of Zortman, is available with questions that people may have.
