One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for April 22, 2020

Whitewater has a new arrival! Congratulations to Courtney and Jason Hellie on the birth of their baby boy named "Tex". He is their sixth son. Wow! Baby Tex was born on April 9 (the same day as my birthday!)

Thanks to all who gave me birthday gifts, food and cards. I appreciate it all including the phone calls. On my birthday, I went to Malta. Then, my Daughter Gale bought me lunch and then brought me back to Whitewater. It was a very nice birthday and gale also changed a lightbulb in my house for me while she was here. (Sometimes, this kind of help is necessary for us seniors.)

On Tuesday, I got a phone call from Julie (Austin) Cole. We had a very nice conversation. Julie is my niece is a teacher in Nashua. She is away from school now because of the COVID-19 virus, another hard time.

On Easter, I received a call from my friend Barbara Hansonal who is a former Malta resident. She said her son, Tim Healy of Harlem, had terrible complications from diabetes. Get well to him. Tim is a musician who has played in Malta. Barbara had a beautiful voice and she used to sing while I played piano for churches. We made a recording of hymns. If you would like one, call me or write to me (I made some into records.)

Easter was quiet and we missed going to churches. Most people listened to church services on KMMR Radio.

We rang the church bell at our Whitewater Lutheran Church. We also had a prayer and sang a few hymns. “We” included Lou B., Patty Y., Pam W., and myself. That ringing of the church bell was our way of saying “We have not given up hope. This will be over, we have hope, because Jesus has risen!”

Here’s hoping everyone is well. “Don’t worry, be happy!”

As always,

Helen A.
