One Nation, Under God

Phillips County Museum News for May 13, 2020

This week is Florence Nightingale’s' birthday and it's also National Hospital Week. Our hospitals bring us not only healing but also hope. Phillips County doctors and nurses bring us high-quality health care locally.

In the early 1920s, our area had a full-scale diphtheria outbreak. A family, parents, and 11 children, who lived near Saco, Mont., were in a crisis mode. All the children were sick and two were very sick. The parents decided to meet the train at Saco and one of them would travel with the children to the Glasgow Hospital in hopes of saving their lives. When the parents reached the train station one of the children was too sick to board the train so dad stayed with him. Sadly, the young man died shortly after the train left. Mom traveled on to Glasgow with the second child but death found this youngster also. Sadly, this story is only one of many at a time when health care was not readily available.

Rejoice Phillips County and support your local doctors and nurses! And when you find time check out the hospital room at the Phillips County Museum. Monday-Saturday 10-5
