One Nation, Under God

Hopefully some normalcy

I am glad to see that things are getting back to normal.

With the potential threat that the COVID-19 virus presented, I understand why precautions were taken throughout the spring and through the early part of the summer, but it is good to see people being active again. I could only hope that the threat has been minimized.

At the time that I wrote this, in Montana, there were 561 total cases of COVID-19 since it’s beginning and only 56 active cases, and seven hospitalizations. There were no active cases in a majority of counties throughout the state. Here, I feel confident about going outside, to the store, or anywhere.

My hometown county, Will County in Illinois, is another story. They have had a total of 6,000 confirmed cases. Our town, Bolingbrook, had close over 1,000 confirmed cases, so one probably wouldn’t blame me for wanting my parents to stay in. Bolingbrook has a population of close to 74,500. The state of Illinois had a total of 129,837 cases.

I can’t visualize how it is to live in a place that has had that many confirmed cases of the virus. I only hope that things have gotten better for my hometown, Montana, and the world.

I wanted to share how appreciative I am of the many people that have reached out to me lately, on issues of race in our world. Several citizens of Phillips County have checked on me lately. And I appreciate that. The family and I are doing fine. I can’t lie. I have not been able to sleep well at night sometimes with current issues going on. Seeing people bicker on the internet has not been helping, but I am optimistic because people seem to want to understand each other.

I just want a better world for my children and children growing up here in our country. I believe no one regardless of race or gender should have to worry about not being hated because of things they can’t control. I feel like that’s a normal parental emotion.
