Donald Ray Wombold

Donald Ray Wombold age 83, of Malta, Mont., passed away at the Benefis Hospice House in Great Falls, Mont., on Thursday, June 18, 2020.

His funeral is planned for Saturday, June 27, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the Malta Lutheran Church, in Malta. A viewing for family and friends will be Friday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Wilderness Funeral Home, in Malta.

Don was born to John and Helen Wombold on January 6, 1937, he was raised with two brothers and two sisters in Wagner, Mont. Don went to grade school in Wagner and high school in Malta where he graduated in 1955. After high school, Don had a variety of jobs that took him from Montana to Seattle, Washington, and Alaska, settling back in Malta and reporting to the military in 1959. In September of 1962, Don married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Sandvick, they had two boys Ron and Randy. Don worked as a mechanic during the day and drove a school bus in Malta, later working as a service technician and delivery driver with a local company and later with Petrolane. Jobs later came in the form of a refuse truck driver and school custodian, he really enjoyed chatting with the students, finally, retiring in 2002. Don was a volunteer for the fire department, a member of Malta Lutheran Church, and was a busy member of Jaycees in his younger years. Don enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and traveling when possible.

Don is preceded in death by his wife Sharon, parents, sister Bonnie, and daughter-in-law Jeanne.

Don is survived by sons Ron (Sharon) of Great Falls, Randy (Dawn) of Rapid City, five grandkids, and three great-grandkids, brothers, Stan of Malta, Roger (Myrna) of Virginia, and sister Barb (Gene) Omdahl of Malta.

Don will be missed by many, but we all have an angel watching over us.
