Book signing and kid's fun at GPDM

The Kid's Day and book signing at the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum in Malta last Saturday had GPDM Paleontologist Cary Woodruff pleased as punch on Monday morning.

"Our community is the tops!" he told the PCN. "Thank you to all the people who attended our Kids' Day at the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum. We were very grateful for the nice turnout."

Woodruff's children's book "Beyond Dinosaurs My First Book about Flying Creatures" was recently released and the book signing was a part of a fun day for children and their parents on the day.

Jillian O'Brien, newest hire at the GPDM, with the help of several volunteers, had the entire day planned out. Some events took place inside the museum, and some outside, but at each, social distancing was in place. O'Brien didn't know how many children would show up, hoped it would be a good crowd, and looked forward to the rest of the afternoon.

"Children can hammer out sharks teeth, build lava lamps, play in dig pits as well as lots of coloring and stickers for the kids...there will even be a visor station where kids can make their own visors to wear," O'Brien said.

"This is great," said Mary Oxarart as her sons, Wyatt and Carson dug for fossils in front of the museum. "It is great to be back out in the community and it is awesome that they are hosting this."

Roan Korman, six of Hinsdale, said that he was digging and looking for shark teeth...but it wasn't his first rodeo. "I dug some up last year here," he said. "I took them home, but I can't remember where I put them. I will put these ones in my dresser like everything else."

O'Brien, Sommer Green, Ashlyn Morser, Eion Estill, Damien, Aeowyn and Alethia Austin, Anne and Kris Boothe, and Lu Besel were great volunteers for the day, working hard to keep all the activities flowing, Woodruff reported, and Colby Wright won the Guess How Many Dinosaurs and got several types of tumbled stones!
