One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for July 15, 2020

Sympathy to families who lost people due to gun violence in many places.

Pat (Ivanovich) Donich who is Sally Austin’s sister, was in Whitewater. She bought dinner at North 40 for Sally A., Dallas, and Ashley Green, Jeanne Green, and myself. Thanks to Pat for dinner and visit. Pat has been in Minnesota for a nursing class reunion. she returned home on Sunday.

On July 4, many from the area went to the lake.

The Scheffelmaers went camping in the mountians near Zortman.

Sally Austin took me to town on the 4th of July. The streets were empty as everyone was gone for the Independence Day holiday. I went to the grocery store and also to the laundry mat.

Recently, Bill Prior of the Phillips Transit Authority came to Whitewater and I rode to Malta with him. The transit comes to Whitewater, but riders need to call ahead at 406-654-5301. If there were enough riders, they would make a steady route of Whitewater.

It is said that many activities that we enjoy are canceled due to the COVID-19 virus. The Villa Theatre is closed for now. The Fort Peck Theatre, I think, has been canceled for the 2020 season.

On July 4, Whitewater had lightning, thunder, rain, and terrible wind that blew and blew and blew. On July 7 it repeated and caused the electricity to go out inb Whitewater for 24 hours! It reminded me of growing up without lights. The Big Flat Electric Company repaired the damage and got power back on.

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer and the weather.

Take care,

Helen A.
