PCH&FHC crowns Olympic-game winners

The Phillips County Hospital and Family Health Clinic recently held Hospital Week after postponing the event early in the year and concluded last week with an Olympic-style ceremony in which the winners were crowned.

This year, the hospital and clinic decided the week would include Summer Olympics-the Corona Games (not to make light of the COVID-19 issues facing this country, but rather in an attempt to normalize the day-to-day life at the hospital.)

Food was served all week, each day of the week highlighting cuisine from countries around the world. Aside from the food, games were played each day by the staff, and points were accumulated. The first of such games was "COVID-19 Knockout" was a timed event where contestants put on gowns, and gloves (oven mitts) and then bowled with toilet paper to knock down the pins.

The second contest of Hospital Week was "Corona Ring Toss" where contestants threw rings at bottles of Corona and received points for the rings they made around the bottle. The third game with "Building Immunity" which was a timed game using sensory blocks to build a tower without tipping it over.

At the end of Hospital week, Tammy Hubeny took the bronze medal for third place and, aside from her medal, was awarded Olympic Oreos and hand sanitizer. The sliver medal was earned by Laura Gouker who also received the Olympic Oreos as well as some toilet paper.

Taking top honors and the gold medal was Kayla Howard who earned the Oreos and a six-pack of Corona.

Congratulations to all the winners and contestants.
