One Nation, Under God

I felt that

I don’t do sappy TV Shows and movies. I am not one that needs a chick flick to open my emotions. But, every once in a while, a film does make me tear up.

The first time that I noticed this was while watching A Walk to Remember. I try no to spoil things, but if you recall there was a certain tragedy in that film that set my waterworks off.

Years later, I watched Man of Steel. You may think, what could make a person cry during in a Superman movie?

This is a slight spoiler but during Clark Kent’s childhood, he was just understanding his powers. During a regular day at, he started seeing things with his x-ray vision. He couldn’t control it and started seeing the skeletons and organs of his teacher and classmates. He also started to hear things louder than normal, and eventually spazzed out and ran out of his classmate and into a closet.

His teacher attempted to open the door that Kent locked and was met with a door handle that was made hot by Kent’s heat vision.

His mother popped into the frame attempting to help the situation.

“The world is too big mom,” Clark said.

His mom responded, “Focus on my voice.”

I won’t say what happened next but I could relate to that. Sometimes I feel different because of how I look. Though I am a social butterfly, I often like my solitude and not feel like there are eyes on me.

I can empathize with Kent because while I don’t know what it is like to have superpowers that scare me, it made me feel terrible for the character. I felt bad because he was a kid going through something traumatic.

Another instance of a movie hitting my emotional side was The Greatest Showman. There were a couple of things that softened my heart, but the very first one is when the child version of Phineas Barnum started singing “A Million Dreams.”

For some weird reason, I have to leave the room when that song comes on. It’s probably my allergies.
