One Nation, Under God

First rodeo for the Bibbs

A couple of weeks ago, my family experienced their first rodeo together.

I was delivering papers to one of the local gas stations and saw a flyer in the window for a rough stock rodeo. I knew right then and there that it was time to go to a rodeo together.

I had taken my oldest son PJ to his first rodeo earlier this year in another town. Though he said that he enjoyed the event, it was a ranch rodeo and it was harder for him to understand.

With respect to the sport, I knew that he would enjoy a rough stock rodeo because of the action that transpires as a young cowboy tries to hold on to a bronc or bull.

The Trafton Park Arena did not disappoint that day. There were plenty of thrills and spills. The boys were so excited by the action that they saw that my youngest son Lincoln wanted to go back to the arena after we got home.

“I want to see the bulls,” Lincoln said over and over.

He went to bed and when he woke up, he asked if we were going to the rodeo.

Unfortunately after we left, a young man was injured. Our prayers for healing for that young man.

I was proud of my sons that day. I didn’t know how Lincoln would do at a sporting event, but he did well. He was friendly with everyone and seemed to enjoy our family outing. PJ did great. He did a great job looking out of his little brother and he enjoyed the event.

I went back to the gas station where the flyer was posted and asked if I could have it for reasons of nostalgia. I plan on framing that posted one of these days.

It was a good night and I was very proud of our small town. I look forward to the next rough stock rodeo.
