Auxiliary honors WWII veterans and Gold Star Mother with 2020 Cookbook

Post 4067 Buster Deo VFW Auxiliary chose to honor pur local World War II Veterans and Phillips County Gold Star Mother with the 2020 Cookbook which has just arrived. Dedicated to their service, honored are Fred Allery of Whitewater, and Cliff Johnson, George Lamb, Virginia Koss, and Eugenia Taylor of Malta. All five are Veterans of the military and longtime residents of Phillips County. Also being honored is Mae Walsh, the last of the Gold Star Mothers in the county.

Within the pages of the cookbook are 200 recipes, are recipes from family members of two men who were POW (Prisoner of War) during their time of service in the military. These two are Hubert Drabbels of Malta and Orlie Linn of Saco. Families of the 5 Veterans have also provided recipes on their behalf.

The cookbook is a gathering of generational family favorites as well with contributions from each of those to whom the book is dedicated. There were a couple of glitches in the submission of the recipes though and some contributed were not included, and the Auxiliary apologizes for this.

Friends and families of Veterans have shared from their heart to put together a cookbook that will forever bring smiles and memories. A majority of the recipes were contributed in memory of a Veteran, some living and some deceased. Poems of two local individuals have also been included. Cookbooks are available locally for $10 from any VFW Auxiliary member or they can be mailed for the cost plus postage. If you would like a copy, contact Chairman Michelle Stevens at 654-4405 or Kari Hould at 390-3552.
