Cpl. Lawrence T. Miller arrived back in Malta this week after an absence of almost five years during which time he was a prisoner of the Japanese for 42 months. In spite of the fact the he underwent almost unbelievable tortures, starvations, hard work and heartbreak, Cpl. Miller now weighs 201 pounds as compared to his peace time average weight of 210 pounds.

He has been pronounced in excellent health, has recently acquired a bride and plans to re-enlist in the U. S. Army where he will rate a technical sergeant's stripes.

Cpl. Miller enlisted in the army a year previous to Pearl Harbor and was with General King's troops when they were surrounded by the Japanese on April 9, 1942. The men were broken up into small groups and started immediately on an 87-mile march to Camp O'Donnell.

Two Malta men are members of famed Caterpillar Club

At least two Phillips County men who served in the Army Air Corps in World War II are members of the famed Caterpillar Club and numbered among the 30 Montanans who are now voting by mail on the question of establishing local posts of chapters.

The two Malta members are Hubert Drabbles and Harvey Dionne.

Founded in 1922, the club was a mythical organization until 1943. At that time, some old time Caterpillar members met and elected officers.
