One Nation, Under God

Donna Mae Olson

Donna Mae Olson died on December 6, 2020, in Canon City, Colorado, losing her long battle against cancer.

Born April 29, 1935, in Havre, Montana, she and her husband Marlan moved to Malta with their four children in 1961. Together they owned and operated the Great Northern Hotel. Her second career was as a licensed abstractor. She added yet a third career after deciding that retirement was not her cup of tea. She returned to the work force for 12 years at Ezzie’s Wholesale.

Donna was actively involved in politics, even chairing the Phillips County Republicans. Her favorite hobby was creating her magazine-worthy yard and flower beds. She took special pride in her rose garden. Donna also thoroughly enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and belonging to a wonderful coffee group and birthday club. She treasured those warm friendships, which made it difficult for her to move to Colorado in 2018.

She was preceded in death by Marlan, her childhood sweetheart and loving husband of 56 years, and by her son Robert. She is survived by children Pauline (John) Carochi, Laura (Frank) Jones, and James (Bernie) Olson. Her grandchildren were the light of her life: David (Brandy) Jones, Jeremy (Danielle) Carochi, Andrina (Ronnie) Starika, Danielle (Jeromy) Mulvany, and Robert James Olson. Donna always dreamed of relaxing in a rocking chair cuddling great grandbabies. She had that opportunity with all seven of hers: Quinn Olson and Isabelle Wagner, Ryan Jones, Aubrey and Natalie Starika, and Riley and Blake Carochi.

Condolences for the family may be left at [email protected] or sent to Donna Olson family at 1317 Field Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212. Graveside family services will be held next spring in Havre, Montana.
