One Nation, Under God

Roberta White Duvall

Roberta White Duvall said goodbye to her time on this earth Tuesday, December 8th, 2020. She passed peacefully at home with her husband, Sam, and family members.

Roberta was born July 27, 1939 in Whitefish, MT to John and Mabel White. She was the oldest of three children; Myrna, (Bob) Williamson and Randy, (Joy) White.

Roberta and Sam Duvall married June 1, 1958 in Dodson, MT. They moved to Landusky while Sam worked construction then onto the Lund place and ranched. Later, in 1960, they went to Wolf Point to visit and stay for a bit, which turned into 58 years. In which time, they raised four children James Duvall of Fort Benton, Tim, (Linda) Duvall of Belgrade, Kim, (Dee) Duvall of Three Forks, and Donita (Jose) Duvall-Marin of Elko, NV.

Roberta and Sam have 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild with several adopted children and grandchildren.

Roberta was very involved in the roping world with Sam. She was secretary for roping clubs and the Wolf Point Match Bronc and timed more ropings than we can remember. Even though she never roped she was the best coach the family had. She spent numerous hours videoing practices, jackpot ropings, and rodeos.

In minutes, she could have food and other supplies ready to go for a weekend of roping or rodeos. She was always looking out for the family and neighbors. She calved heifers at home and lambed the neighbor’s sheep for more than one year.

Roberta loved working with horses and riding from a very young age. She fondly told stories of riding the milk cows and watching Betty Duvall (Campbell) training horses. She remembered and talked often of spending time with Betty and asking many questions.

After graduating high school in Dodson, Roberta went to Washington to go to stewardess school. Discovering well into the course that being on a plane was kinda scary. She returned home to Dodson and married Sam after he returned home from serving time in the Army.

Roberta will be missed by all that knew her. She is remembered for her welcoming kitchen table, where there was always room for another plate and a bottomless pot of coffee.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
