Malta wrestlers pick up wins in Chinook

The Malta Wrestling team saw action in Chinook and Chester last weekend, nearly winning all of their matches in Chinook.

The Mustangs will host a pair of events this weekend as they host Choteau, Colstrip, and Harlem this Friday, January 29, at 4:30 p.m. and then Chinook, Circle, and Shepherd on Saturday, January 30, at 1 p.m.

The Mustangs fared well in the Chester Mixer hosted by Chinook last Friday, January 23.

Starting things off in the 132 class was Cameron Mikesell, who pinned CJI's Rider Cole in 50 seconds. 152-pounder Colton Mears pinned Chinook's Drake Barreth in 5:50. 160-pounder Camryn Mears pinned Valier's Joe Ramos in 3:54. In the 182 match, Colt French pinned Lincoln Reigh of Chinook in 1:07, and Jaden Kelling pinned Chinook's Wyatt Dunbar in 1:11.

Malta's first loss of the day came in the second round as Co. Mears lost to Valier's Ramos in the 152 match by 7-1 decision.

Cam. Mears pinned Chinook's Reigh in the 160-pound match in 1:16. At 182, French was pinned by Chinook's Tyler Schoen in 1:25. Tye Jones was pinned by Chinook's Dunbar in 2:27 in the 285 match.

The team was a part of the Chinook Mixer last Saturday, and though they had a great start one night prior, the team did not win a match in the opening round.

In the second round of matches, Co. Mears (152) was able to pin Leigh of Chinook in 2:56. Cam. Mears (160) pinned Perserverence Bechtold of Choteau. French (170) pinned Choteau's Jared Selander in 4:25 and Parker Mortenson pinned Jacob Major of Choteau in 2:59.
