February 10, 2021

The North Country Lady Mavericks are currently 13-0 after defeating the Dodson Lady Coyotes last Thursday, the Glasgow Lady Scotties last Friday, and the Scobey Lady Spartans last Saturday.

The Dodson Lady Coyotes would go on to pick up losses to Scobey last Friday and Medicine Lake last Saturday.

In North Country’s win over Dodson last Thursday, the score was 64-23. The Lady Mavs were led by Jaycee Erickson who had 19 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Kia Wasson had nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals. Teagan Erickson had eight points, 12 rebounds, and two assists.

“Tonight we didn’t hit shots as well in our half-court offense, but our defense got us some good transition and baskets and was able to get us stops,” Lady Mavericks Head Coach Amber Erickson said.

The Lady Mavericks were able to get quality minutes from their reserves in their victory.

“Being able to bring in Zandora, Kendall, Ciena, and Mattea was a really good opportunity to give other kids rest on a three game weekend, as well as give them varsity minutes,” Coach Erickson said.

Coach Erickson believes that having three-game weekends prepares her team for the postseason, which begins next week.

“Every team is in the same boat,” Coach Erickson said. “It’s going to be about who can grind it out, play mentally tough and through a little fatigue.”

The Lady Mavericks defeated Scobey 53-32 last Saturday evening in Saco. K. Wasson had 14 points. McColly had 13 points, T. Erickson had eight points, P. Wasson had six points. J. Erickson had six points, LaBrie had two points and Cummings had 2 points.

Third quarter adjustments were key to the team’s victory. After heading into halftime down 25-22, the Mavericks only allowed two points in the third while scoring 21 points. They also held Scobey to five points in the fourth quarter, while adding ten points to their total.

Last Friday, The Lady Mavericks also defeated Glasgow 43-25. North Country was led by J. Erickson who had 16 points. T. Erickson had nine points, LaBrie had six points, K. Wasson had four points, and Paige Wasson had two points.

The Lady Coyotes held Glasgow to under five points in each of the first three quarters, but were held to under ten points in each of those periods. After building a 27-10 lead going into the fourth quarter both teams put forth their strongest offensive effort in the fourth quarter. Glasgow posted 15 points, while North Country scored 16.

The Lady Coyotes squared off against Froid-Medicine Lake last Saturday night in Dodson. The Lady Coyotes lost 41-22.
