Lady Mavs, Lady Coyotes head to 3C Tourney

The 2021 3C Girls Basketball Tournament will consist of six teams from Northeastern Montana, who all have their sights set on making the Eastern C Divisional Tournament scheduled to start on Thursday, February 25.

The North Country Lady Mavericks enter this week's tournament as the top seed after posting a 16-0 record overall and a 9-0 record against conference opponents. The Scobey Lady Spartans amassed a 15-3 record (7-2 conference) and will be the tournament's second seed, The Dodson Lady Coyotes are third in the conference with a 5-7 record (4-4 conference), The Lustre Lady Lions are fourth with a 5-6 record (4-5 conference), the Nashua Lady Porcupines were 3-5 (1-5 conference) and took fifth, while the Frazer Lady Cubs were 0-10 (0-8 conference). All six teams will compete for one of only three available 3C spots at the Eastern C Divisional.

Because of their seeding, the Lady Mavericks and Lady Spartans have earned a first-round bye. North Country will face the winner of game 1, a game in which Lustre and Nashua will play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night in Lustre. Scobey will take on the winner of the Dodson and Frazer game at 6 p.m., also on Tuesday but in Dodson.

Lady Mavericks

This past week, the Lady Mavericks picked up three wins, defeating Nashua 88-23 on Thursday, February 11, then Lustre Christian 65-14 on Friday, February 12, and lastly, Frazer 80-5 on Saturday, February 13.

In the team's win over Nashua, in Nashua, six Lady Mavericks scored double-digit point totals. Kora LaBrie led the charge with 17 points. Kaitlyn McOlly had 15 points, Teagan Erickson had 14 points, Paige Wasson had 14 points, Kia Wasson had 13 points, and Jaycee Erickson had 13 points. Kendall Scheffelmear had two points.

In the Lady Maverick's win over Lustre Christian in Lustre, K. Wasson had 13 points, McColly had 11 points, LaBrie had 10 points, Paige Wasson had 10 points, and Zandora Longtree had seven points.

The Lady Mavericks posted their most dominant win of the season against Frazer in Hinsdale, not allowing a single point in the first half. McColly, who was honored for senior night, led the team with 25 points. Ja. Erickson had 13 points, Kelsee Cummings had 10 points, and T. Erickson had eight points.

Lady Coyotes

Last week the Lady Coyotes won two of their last three games of the regular season, defeating Class B's Poplar Indians in Poplar, 54-51 on Monday, February 8, then Frazer in Frazer 47-14. The Lady Coyote lost 48-42 to Lustre Christian in Dodson.

In their win over Poplar, Melony Fetter scored 29 points. Imagin Fox had nine points.

In the team's win over Frazer, Dodson was led by M. Fetter who had 17 points, Lindsey Fetter had 14 points, and Fox had eight points.

In their loss to Lustre, the Lady Coyotes were led by M. Fetter who had 21 points. L. Fetter had 15 points.
