Cuts threaten local tobacco use prevention program which advocates say really works

Teen tobacco use rates have dropped from 27 percent to 16 percent in Montana since the implementation of the Montana Tobacco Use Prevention Program (MTUPP). Here in Phillips County, teen tobacco rates have "dropped even further" said Jill Hould, local coordinator. Over the last 10 years local teen tobacco rates have drooped from 45.9 percent to 12.1 percent based on a Youth Risk Survey conducted in high schools every other year.
