The season ended for the Malta Mustangs at the Northern B Division Consolation finals, as the team fell 72-54 to the Harlem Wildcats at Cut Bank High School on Saturday, March 6.
The Mustangs went 2-2 at the tournament, picking up an opening round 56-50 overtime win over the Conrad Cowboys on Thursday, March 4. The team went toe to toe with the Northern B runner up Fairfield Eagles on Friday, March 5, but fell 47-42.
On Saturday morning, Malta defeated Glasgow 64-37, but later fell to Harlem.
In Malta’s win over Glasgow, Malta kicked things off with a 24-8 run in the first quarter. The team didn’t look back as they outscored the Scotties 17-10 in the second quarter and 11-7 in the third quarter. Both teams scored 12 in the fourth.
The Mustangs were led by Rex Williamson who had 16 points. Kooper Oxarart and Connor Tuss each had 13 points. Pierce Mortenson had 11 points.
In Malta’s win over Conrad, Oxarart had the hot hand, scoring 22 points. Williamson and Tuss each scored 11 points. Darrow Messerly had six points.
In their semifinal loss to Fairfield, the Mustangs were led by Oxarart who had 16 points. Tuss netted 13 points, and Williamson had seven points.
In Malta’s loss to Harlem, Williamson had 19 points, Oxarart had 14 points, and Tuss had 11 points.
