Masons Give Away Bicycles

Malta Masons Lodge #57, gave away four bikes, in the sixth annual Books for Bikes Giveaway recently at Malta Elementary School. This is the sixth year the Masons have donated bikes to promote reading and literacy. They have given away 24 bikes to readers at Malta Elementary School.

Snow Keeps Track Team Practicing Skills Inside

Eight to ten inches of snow covering the Malta High track has forced athletes indoors to practice as best they can.

The weather forced cancelation of Saturday's scheduled first meet of the season in Wolf Point and Glasgow cancelled an April 9 meet, track coach Tad Schye said Tuesday.

Majority of Students Favor Riverview Site

A majority of students attending Malta High School favor rebuilding on the Riverview addition, according to a survey conducted by the Student Council.

Survey questions were put to 146 students. Members of the senior class were not included. According to the survey, 57 percent of those questioned, or 84 students, favor the Riverview site; 28 percent (41 students) favor the Marion Hills site; and 12 percent (17 students) favor the Legg Addition site. Only one percent, (2 students), favored the old school site. The Student Council plans to present the complete survey results at the public forum Thursday night.

Malta Teacher Selected for NASA Workshop

A Malta educator has earned the right to attend the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Educational Workshop for Mathematics, Science and Technology Teachers.

Steve Schumacher, who teaches physics, trigonometry, consumer math, junior high science, two different junior high computer classes and is assistant computer network coordinator at Malta High School and Junior High, will participate in the two-week long workshop July 7-20.

Boys State Delegates Selected

Nine delegates will represent Malta High School at American Legion Boys State the year. The delegates, their parents, and the sponsoring organizations from Malta are; Bill Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Cole, Masonic Lodge; Dan Dyrdahl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Dyrdahl, Moose Lodge; Bruce Bruckner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Laurin Bruckner, VFW Post; Dwayne Simanton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Simanton, Moose Lodge; Brian Robertson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Robertson, American Legion Post; Dick Mavencamp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Mavencamp, Knights of Columbus; Charles Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Johnson, Kiwanis Club; Rob Wiprud, son of Dr. and Mrs. R.M. Wiprud, Jaycees; and Steve Ohs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Ohs, Phillips County Republican Women's Club and the American Legion Post.

All of the delegates are members of the junior class at the high school.

American Legion Boys State will be held on the campus of Western Montana College in Dillon, June 6 through 12.

At Science Fair

Chris Bourassa of St. Mary's Parochial School and Dan Martin of Malta Junior High School received excellent ratings on their science projects at the State Science Fair held in Missoula last weekend.

Jack Lucas of the Malta Public Schools received honorable mention for his mathematics project.

Miss Bourassa's project was "Aid for the Blind" and Martin's was "Tesla Coil." Lucas's project was "Thrachtenberg's Speed System of Mathematics."

Dodson Junior High Will Present Play On March 29

The Dodson Junior High School will present, "A Pair of Kids", a comedy in three acts, by Vivian Mayo next Friday night at the school gymnasium. Lois Nicholson, director of the play, has assured the audience two and a half hours of hilarious comedy.

The play cast includes Wilma Munson, Virginia Lotten, JoAnn LaValley, Betty Schwenke, Eva Hallam, Brian McBride, Franklin James, Raymond Goodson, Buzzy Wells and Dick McNamara.

There will be a dance after the play.

Pilgrim Fellowship Has Softball Game Sunday

The Malta Pilgrim Fellowship group of the Little White Church, under the leadership of Mrs. Rex Ulrich and Earl Harden, held a practice softball game, Sunday at the playground. There was a good turnout of approximately 30 boys and girls, with Rev. F.W. Bruins acting as umpire. Al Meyer was present to give the young people some very good pointers on the ethics of softball. Some excellent talent was displayed, together with true sportsmanship.

The game was followed by a weiner roast in Trafton Park, after which, various outdoor games were played, culminating a perfect day to initiate the season of Spring.

- An elaborate Easter service was planned at te Methodist church. Rev. T.F. Rucker was pastor and men and women appearing in a musical program included Mrs. B.P. Bushnell, Ellis Blumenthal, G.C. Liskum, Mrs. F.W. Hall, Mrs. Sith Dibble, Mrs. Ray Campbell, Mrs. E.R. Davis and Mrs. J.B. Pierce.

- Wages were fixed at $50 per month for sheep herders and $40 per month for general ranch work by the Montana Woolgrowers association.

-A contract was being let for construction of a Dodson school building.

-Nial Smith had taken over the management of the Sugar Bowl Café.

-A carload of steel was being unloaded at Malta for the new court house.

April 1, 1903

- So many street fights were occurring in Malta that Editor Stevens declared it was officially spring.

- A brass band was organized at Hinsdale.

- Mrs. Lyman Austin reported that hunters had been killing her chickens.

- G.L. Partridge, B.M. Brockway and A. Elliot were candidates for a vacancy on the school board.

- Bids were being asked for carrying the mail from Malta to Baeth once a week and from Malta to Phillips twice a week.
