Malta Backs Ball Team With Cash

Diamond Improved and Bleachers Planned

Assurance that Malta’s baseball team will have the support of the community has been proven by the response of business men and individuals to the request for donations to purchase suits and equipment.

Practically every business house in Malta, and many individuals, contributed to a fund which will purchase new white uniforms with red piping and a red “M” on the left breast, and also playing equipment and possibly materials for the construction of bleachers to accommodate 250 spectators. The diamond in Trafton Park has been leveled and a full turn-out of players Sunday was reported by manager Felix McCollum.

The Great Northern ball league, of which Malta is a member, has set the schedule for the season. Malta’s first game is at Havre on May 5. The first home game will be May 19, against Big Sandy.

Veteran Acquires North Side Service Station

Bernard Majusiak, a veteran of World War II with more than five years of service, has purchased the Hole Brothers service station and bulk plant on the North side of Malta and will operate the station under the name “Barney’s Union Service.”

The bulk station will be operated under the name, “Union Oil Company of California.” Majusiak plans to paint and remodel the plant.

Majusiak left Malta with Co. D, Montana National Guard. He served in the army commandos for a time, but was injured and after a year and a half in San Pedro, Californian hospital, was transferred to the transportation corps. He was in charge of educational and recreational programs on troop transports, operating in the Pacific, Atlantic, Asiatic, European and Indo-China theatres of war.

He married a girl from Phoenix, Arizona, and they have a six-month old daughter. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Majusiak of Malta.
