Saco, Whitewater host meet in Glasgow

The Saco and Whitewater Track Teams hosted a track and field meet in Glasgow on Friday, April 30, at Glasgow High School.

Whitewater Coach Charlene Wasson and Saco Coach Barry Malone talked earlier this season and came up with the idea of the meet.

"When all the Covid Restrictions came out and then the limits on teams and entries, I thought if we didn't hold a meet in Glasgow we may not be invited to any meets," Coach Wasson said. "We also visited about how Nashua use to host a meet in Glasgow. Sometimes when you are looking for a meet it is four hours away so we decided to have some options available."

The Whitewater Lady Penguins placed highest amongst all six PC teams, winning the girls' meet with 136 points. The Saco Lady Panthers were second with 91 points, Hinsdale was third with 75, Glasgow was fourth with 60 points, Harlem was fifth with 58, Nashua was sixth with 38, Turner was seventh with 32, Hays Lodge Pole was eighth with three points, and Dodson was ninth with one point.

Harlem won the boys' meet with 168 points. Glasgow was second with 128.5, Hinsdale was third with 66.5, Nashua was fourth with 38, Hays Lodge Pole was fifth with 24, Whitewater was sixth with 18, Dodson and Frazer tied for seventh with two points, and Saco was ninth with a half of a point.

Coach Wasson shared details of the Lady Penguins' performance that day.

"Well, it was a great day for Penguins. Kelsee Cummings broke the school record in the shot put from 1977 held by Lexie Murdock 36'10" and she threw 37'8", which is her new PR.

"Hannah Hanley got her best times in all of her events, not her PRs, but her best times this year, so that was great. It was a little hot for the distance kids who haven't had to run in those conditions yet, so they had to adjust a bit. Kendra Cummings got a PR in the javelin. Ava Hanley got a PR in the 200 and the 300 hurdles, two events we added a little later in the season. Kora LaBrie ran a PR in the 800 and this was just her second time running the race. Kendall Scheffelmear PR in the 400 and Paige Wasson got a PR in the javelin as well."
