Sympathy to victims of tornadoes and floods down south.

(Editor's Note: The following, in bold, was a letter written to the editor o the Phillips County News.)

To the Editor,

Here in Phillips County and Whitewater, the time for torture is here, the beautiful, darling little calves are being burned, branded, dehorned, operated on, etc… without anesthetic. PETA and the Humane Society should stop them. It is all cruelty to animals! Instead of burning, why can’t they put a chip in. They also do this with dogs and cats. Branding is more of a tradition than a necessity.

Folks in Whitewater that are traveling: Lu Bessell flew to Texas to visit his son, who is an airplane pilot.

Jeanie Green has been on a sheep ranch in Lewistown. She is helping lamb 500 ewes.

Sally Austin (and all of us) are looking forward to Justin Austin and their family moving back to Montana from Colorado. “Hello” and welcome back to them.

The USDA/United States Dept. of Agriculture had given the Whitewater Senior Citizens Center, Ag Food commodities. This is mostly agriculture products. THANKS TO USDA!

This food program was organized by Diane Simanton of Whitewater for this area. Thanks to her also.

School is out in Whitewater. Some students are riding bikes or jogging. But many here live in the country.

When I was in school, we learned a song about Montana the Big Sky Country. Here are the words.

“MONTANA, MONTANA Glory of the West. Of all the states from coast to coast, you are easily the best. MONTANA, MONTANA, where skies are always blue. M.O.N.T.A.N.A I LOVE YOU!!

Helena A. (A Native Montanan)
