One Nation, Under God

Loring News for Wednesday, August 11, 2021

This year has been one for the books! After last year with the restrictions on travel, etc. I thought “back to more normal” would be great! I was not thinking about a record year for no moisture and high temperatures then pile on a truckload of grasshoppers! I'm thankful that most of the people I know are well, and managing their lives ok. It's just hard to adjust to a different lifestyle.

Wow! We got a gentle rain for about 12 hours on Sunday! It was welcome, Fair goers were enjoying the Indian Relay Races just as it started to rain! What a way to end the 108th annual Phillips County Fair!

The 4-H kids had a very successful year culminating with the entries at the fair! Beau Simonson ended his 4-H career with a beautiful steer, and fantastic bread! Amus Blunt entered leatherwork, and a swine. I'm sure he learned a lot this year and will continue his hard work!

I entered my paintings, but I did not get to the fair other than on Thursday, since I attended a funeral in Billings, I encourage people to enter in open class just to give a good amount of displays to make the open class interesting for people to look at!

Rodney Stordahl and I drove to Billings to see our families over the weekend. The celebration of life for Greg Richau was well attended. It's interesting how so many friends and relatives come together at an occasion like this. I was happy to see my cousin Lisa Askelson from Cut Bank. She is unstoppable at helping out!

This week the meteors should be spectacular if the smoke clears from the skies! August is always prime viewing for those falling stars! Another thing I should comment on is the fact that there are 10 or so Pelicans in a little pond of water on the south road from Malta! I've never seen them through the whole summer! They must have a lot of fish in that pond!

The border to Canada opens today (Monday, August 9) for US citizens going to Canada, but not for Canadians coming to the US! Hopefully soon!

Be kind!
