2021 4-H and FFA Carcass Results

The carcass results from the 2021 4-H and FFA livestock show at the Phillips County Fair are complete. Carcass results are eligible to be submitted to the Steer of Merit program, sponsored by the Montana Stockgrowers; Symbol of Excellence program, sponsored by the Montana Pork Producers Council; and Montana Certified Lamb program, sponsored by the Montana Wool Growers.

For meeting individual carcass requirements, youth winners and the breeders of their animals receive a certificate from the sponsoring livestock organizations, and 4-H trophies for first (Grand) and second (Reserve) place exhibitors in each species.

There were five steers out of 35 that qualified for Steer of Merit. The Grand Champion Market Beef Carcass was presented to Ryder Raymond, with the trophy sponsor was Kienenberger's Rocky Ridge Ranch. Ryder'sbeef breeder was Allen Young. The Reserve Champion Carcass was awarded to Kora LaBrie, with the trophy sponsored by CHS Big Sky. Kora's beef breeder was Kris LaBrie. The other SOM winners were Elly Anderson, Darden Anderson, and Sandra Sones.

There was one market lamb that qualified for Montana Certified Lamb. The Grand Champion Market Lamb Carcass belonged to Jayda Wise, with the trophy being sponsored by Ezzie's Wholesale. Jayda's lamb breeder was Gigi Green. Reserve Champion Market Lamb Carcass trophy was awarded to Alex Oshio, with the trophy sponsor being Lloyd's Auto Supply. Alex's lamb breeder was Jeanie Green.

Twelve swine qualified for the Symbol of Excellence swine carcass awards out of 45. The Grand Champion Market Swine Carcass was awarded to Rhiaunna Simonson, with her trophy sponsor being Veseth Cattle Co. The swine breeder was Cain Super Sires. The Reserve Champion Market Swine Carcass was awarded to Layla Messerly, with the trophy was sponsored by M Cross Cattle Co. The swine breeder was Full Throttle Show Pigs. Other SOE certificate winners were: Mackenzie Witmer, Hudson Moore, Ellis Carnahan, Connor Clause, Ainsley Erickson, Anderson Yeadon, Charli Carnahan, Kendall Clausen, Sam Simonson, and Beckett Squires.
