Election Results Across Phillips County

Three Phillips County municipalities held elections on Tuesday, November 2.

The town of Dodson had the busiest ballot in the county, with the mayor’s spot to be filled and two council member spots open.

A total of 67 ballots were issued to active registered voters with 41, or 61.1% of those ballots returned.

At the end of May this year, then-mayor, Terri Cole resigned. A nomination was made, seconded, then passed by a 3-1 vote to make Angel Arocha the Mayor of Dodson for the remainder of the term.

Arocha was on the ballot this time, running against Glenn A. Dolphay. In the closest race in the county, Arocha won by two votes. She received 21(51%) against Dolphay’s 19(46%), with 1 write-in vote.

“Hello all! I’d like to thank the residents of Dodson for voting me into the official mayoral position for the next four years,” said Arocha. “Your votes all meant a lot to me and I genuinely appreciate the support! We will continue to work in the best interest of the town as a whole. Thanks again!”

In the council member’s race, the top two vote getters would win the seats.

Francine Stiffarm was the leading vote getter with 30(73%), and the other seat went to Skip Cole with 24 votes (58.5%). Others to receive votes were Ava Welch with 21(51%) and two write-in votes.

In Malta, the City Council seat held by incumbent David Rummel was contested by challenger Steen McFadden for Ward 1.

574 ballots were issued to active registered voters with 287 ballots turned in for a 50% turnout.

Rummel won the seat with 195 votes or 68% of the returned ballots. McFadden received 91 votes.

“I am humbled and grateful for all the votes of support I received in the Malta Ward 1 City Council election,” said Rummel. “I am looking forward to serving the people of Malta over the next four years. Please feel free to contact me in regards to any city concerns.”

In Saco, the position of Mayor was up for election. With the passing of Mayor Craig Robinson this past year, interim mayor Wayne Woodall ran against challenger L.A. (Mac) McIntosh.

118 total ballots were issued to active registered voters in Saco. 79 of those ballots were returned, for a 66.9% turnout.

Woodall received 57 votes for 72% of the vote. McIntosh received 20 votes for 25%. There was two write-in votes cast to make up the other 3%.
