One Nation, Under God

Daryl Douglas Barrett

On Saturday, October 23rd 2021, Daryl Douglas Barrett "Doug", 79, passed away at Golden Options Care Assisted Living surrounded by family after a long battle with prostate cancer.

Doug was born on January 1st, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was raised in Malta, MT on his parents' ranch. Doug attended high school in Malta and participated in football and wrestling. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and attended basic training at Fort Ord, CA. Doug returned to Montana where he later married and had three children, Klark, Kody, and Kimarie. He later divorced. Doug worked several different jobs as a young man. He was especially proud of his Sawyer job in the Bitterroot. Doug retired as a Readiness NCO E7 from the Army National Guard in 1998.

Doug enjoyed golfing, bow and rifle hunting, and attending all of his grandkids' sporting events and special occasions. He also loved spending quality time with his family and reminiscing about his childhood and life on the ranch. In the fall, Doug looked forward to attending hunting camp and the yearly fish fry with his brother, Gary, and friends. Ironically, Doug passed away on opening day of rifle season, so there must be good hunting in the heavens above.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Sanford, mother Maxine, and sister Karen. He is survived by his siblings Gary, Steve, Adrian, George, and Linda; children Klark (Vicky) Barrett, Kody (Robin) Barrett, and Kimarie Mickel. He was a special Grandpa to Keri, Taylor, Marissa, Katie, Riley, Seth, Ryan and four great-grandchildren.

Doug maintained his sharp wit and kept the staff at Golden Options on their toes up until his death. The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Peter's Hospice, the staff at Golden Option's Care Assisted Living, and Suzette "Suzy" who gave him his weekly bath (even in between his toes!).

A celebration of Doug's life was held at East Helena City Hall on Saturday, November 6, at 1:30 p.m. A reception followed at VFW East Helena Post 10010.
