One Nation, Under God

Two Councilpersons Sworn in at Last Meeting of the Year

It was a quiet and quick City Council meeting on December 28, 2021, as Councilman Sintler and Mayor Demarais could not make it in for the last meeting of the year.

Councilperson Bonnie Wiederrick called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

The only new business at the meeting was to have Malta City Clerk Lorie Bond administer the oath of office to Ward 1 Councilperson Elect David Rummel and Ward 2 Councilperson Elect Bonnie Wiederrick.

In the department reports, Clerk Bond informed the council that City Custodian Lesa Williamson reported that her husband had helped a young kid out of the bowl at the skate park over the weekend. Bond said that during the winter, the sides of the bowls get icy and slick making it impossible for a person to climb out.

Ms. Williamson had stated that this was not the first time this had happened.

Clerk Bond said that she contacted Public Works Director Jim Truelove and that he had the city crew tape off the skate park bowls and that she had also contacted the Sheriff’s Office and asked them to check the skate park bowls routinely for trapped youths in the future.

PWD Truelove reported that the bypass at Trafton Lift Station was installed and operating. Truelove informed the council that the hose on the bypass had sprung a leak on Christmas morning and that Lakeside Excavation had repaired it that following Monday.

PWD Truelove also presented the council with a quote from Shores Metal Design for the fabrication of a sign for the Malta Event Center.

The next Malta City Council meeting will be this Tuesday, January 11, at 5:00 p.m. in City Hall.
