Lady Mavericks roll through Dodson, Glasgow, Nashua

The North Country Lady Mavericks won a trio of games last week, defeating the Dodson Lady Coyotes 56-19 on Thursday, January 27, the Nashua Lady Porcupines 50-8 on Friday, January 28, and the Glasgow Lady Scotties 51-22 on Saturday, January 29.

The Mavericks, like many teams around the Hi-Line, have had games postponed, but the season seems to be in full swing.

Senior Zandora Longtree was asked how she felt about her team at this point of the season.

“It feels good to have a well-combined team, with so many players that (Coach Amber Erickson) can sub in and out and we can play good defense,” Longtree said.

In North Country’s win over Nashua held at the Penguin Palace in Whitewater, the team was led by Teagan Erickson who had 17 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Jaycee Erickson had eight points, three assists, and five steals. Paige Wasson had seven points, six rebounds, and two assists. Kora LaBrie had six points and two assists.

North Country’s defense held Nashua without a single point in the first half, and the Porcupines’ first score came midway through the third quarter, a two-point field goal by Tia Dees, who scored seven points.

Jaycee Erickson, a senior captain, was asked about the team’s key to victory.

“It was our defense for sure,” Erickson said. “We played our 1-2-2 because we had to work it. I like how we got the ball around tonight and everyone scored. It was just a lot of fun.”

In North Country’s win over Dodson, the Lady Mavericks were led by J. Erickson who had 17 points, four assists, and three steals. T. Erickson had eight points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

“Our defense was key,” Longtree said. “Our bench as well. Our bench was rowdy and wild.”

In North Country’s win over Glasgow, the Lady Mavericks were led by J. Erickson, who had 16 points, four assists, three rebounds, and three steals.

T. Erickson had 14points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and four blocks. Wasson had 11 points, four assists, and two steals.

“The girls were very excited for the Glasgow game and came out focused and fired up,” Coach Erickson said. “I told them that I was very proud of their effort, enthusiasm, and teamwork.”

The Mavericks are scheduled to face Scobey on Friday, February 4, in Scobey at 6 p.m.
