One Nation, Under God

Annual Dinosaur Day at Malta Elementary

"Every year I wonder if I should do this project, and every year my students make me so proud and I realize why I do it," said 2nd-grade teacher and organizer of Dinosaur Day, Mrs. Teri Blunt.

Every year, for the past 15 or 16 years, Mrs. Blunt gets out the large collection of dinosaur books and each student gets to pick which dinosaur they will do a report and presentation on.

"It has evolved into a kind of lottery," Mrs. Blunt said. "We draw names and they get to choose. Then they can switch with someone but only once. It's become a rather big ordeal in itself."

This tradition is held at the same time every year. The kids get to work on their reports for the short week before Easter, and then the whole week after, culminating in the open house on Friday for parents, grandparents, and the public to go to the elementary gymnasium to see and hear all of the hard work they have done.

All of the parents commented that all they have heard for the last two weeks is dinosaurs, dinosaurs, dinosaurs. They also said that all of the students had done a wonderful job.

Mrs. Blunt said she appreciates everyone that comes out to the open house so that the kids can show off their hard work and all of the extra staff that makes Dinosaur Day possible every year.
