Lefdahl, Anderson, and Lamb lead M-ettes at State

The Malta M-ettes ended their track and field season at the State B and C Meet that started on Thursday, May 26, and concluded on Saturday, May 28, at Great Falls High School's Memorial Stadium.

The M-ettes finished sixteenth out of 23 teams present in the Class B Girls' Meet. The meet was won by Sweet Grass County, who had a total of 99.5 points. Colstrip was second with 66.5 points, Bigfork was third with 49 points, Jefferson was fourth with 39 points, Glasgow was fifth with 35 points, Broadwater was sixth with 34 points, Loyola-Sacred Heart was seventh with 24, and Huntley Project was eighth with 23 points.

The team was led by senior Skylie Lefdahl, who took third in discus with a throw of 110-01.

"It wasn't my best," Lefdahl said. "But I am happy that I got a mark out there like that because the first one, I scratched, my second one is the one (I set a mark on), and I scratched on the third throw. So, it was good to have a safe mark to be at."

She said that she knew if she could hit 110, it would be a great place to be.

Lefdahl was seventeenth in shot put with a throw of 30-4.50.

Though she didn't place, Lefdahl was happy to be a part of the state shot put even for the first time in her career.

"I don't even know where it came from," Lefdahl said of her improved throws in shot put. "I wasn't much of a shot fan and I had to push myself to stay in it all throughout high school and I didn't do well at discus (at the 2B District meet)."

She said that she was upset by not leaving a mark in the district discus event and then threw her mark of 34-1 in shot put.

"It finally clicked with me, I guess," Lefdahl said.

Junior Addy Anderson was fourth in high jump after clearing 4-10 in her first attempt of the height. Anderson did not touch the bar until she attempted 5-0.

Senior Justine Lamb took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best of 16.16 seconds in the finals. "There are a lot of girls younger than me and at that age, you are pretty quick, and I think that they did a really good job," Lamb said. "I am pretty proud of them and I am really glad that I got to race with these girls for my last year."

It was the first time that Lamb had reached the podium since her freshmen season (2019) when she took fourth place with a time of 16.34 seconds.

"I was kind of upset that I placed where I did, but I am also really happy because it was my senior year and I really wanted to at least reach the podium for my last year because I don't think that I will ever run these hurdles again," Lamb said.

J. Lamb qualified for the finals with a time of 16.26 in the preliminaries. She was also fifteenth in high jump after clearing 4-6.

Junior Madyson Bain almost earned her first state medal, but fell short, taking seventh with a personal best of 104-9 in Discus.

Junior Madison Williamson was ninth in triple jump by placing a mark at 32-1.25.

Sophomore Giona Lamb almost reached the podium in shot put. She posted a personal best of 34-8 in the finals, which earned her a seventh-place finish. She reached the finals with a throw of 33-11.5. G. Lamb was sixteenth in discus with a personal best of 88-9.

Junior Kira Beck saw the first action for Malta, after competing in the pole vault on Thursday. She took eighth place this year in the event by tying her personal best of 9-0, which also tied Malta High School's school record.

"I feel pretty good," Beck said. "I am a little mad because I want to place."

Though Beck cleared most of the heights with no issues, Beck ran into adversity attempting 9-6, a height of which she suffered a knee injury at Memorial Stadium earlier this year.

"I'm happy because I wasn't supposed to be vaulting but I am," Beck said.

Junior Tia Siewing was eighth in shot put with a throw of 34-5.25. She posted an identical throw of 34-5.25 in the preliminaries, which was the sixth-best throw.

Junior Allison Kunze was eleventh in triple jump with a season's best of 31-7.5. She was also eighteenth in long jump with a leap of 14-6.5, and twenty-first in the 200 with a season's best of 28.85 seconds.

The short relay consisting of Gracie Honey, Addison Ulrich, Kunze, and Madison Williamson took thirteenth with a time of 54.04.

The long relay consisting of Ulrich, Honey, Kunze, and Williamson was disqualified.

Honey, a sophomore, was fourteenth in the 800 with a time of 2:35.50.

Ulrich took twenty-third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.13 seconds.
