Penguin Cross Country in Poplar

The Whitewater Penguins Cross Country Team competed at the Poplar Invitational on Saturday, September 3.

“It wasn't our best day,” Penguins Head Coach Carly Hammond said. “It was 85 degrees by the time the girls started the race so by mile-two, they were beat; very dizzy and beat.”

Coach Hammond said that she wishes that the races could start one hour sooner because of how hard the late-morning is on the athletes.

Shelbi LaBrie took fourth place in the race with a time of 22:13. Samantha Wisher was ninth with a time of 23:46, Ava Hanley was 44th with a time of 30.08, and Kendra Cummings was 46th with a time of 31:36.

“I'm going to chalk it up to mental hurdles that we've gotten over,” Coach Hammond said. “They all finished the race and jumped in the sprinklers!”

The Penguins are scheduled to run in the Havre Invitational on Saturday, September 10, at 10 a.m.
