One Nation, Under God

Were You Raised in a Barn?

"No, mom, I wasn't...but I know people who work in one!"

The biggest event of the week, for the little town most of us call home, was Wednesday, September 21st. The Phillips County Transit Authority, a local bus service welcomed guests to view and tour the new bus barn.

Betty Hasler stated "We had a very good turnout, well over a hundred according to the giveaways. All the comments were very positive and such a good asset for the county; to keep our drivers and buses out of the weather."

Guests were greeted and guided for parking by David Rummel, a Board member. Inside, cake, lemonade, and coffee was quickly making smiles on faces of guests. Betty Hasler, Director of the Phillips County Transit Authority, greeted guests upon their arrival. The double flavored cake with a transfer picture of the building (edible) was served by Judy Henry; County Nurse, Jennifer Tollefson was the registrar for door prizes and provided handouts for the event.

Betty said, "They all thought the building was awesome. After spending 16 years in my office in the basement of the hospital, this is quite a change.

Wade Hasler and Duane Murray filled in as aides, providing additional seating and tables as needed for the growing crowd.

It was a great place to meet neighbors, old friends and those you haven't seen in a while. The door prize winners were: (Adult) Doug Henry-$100 gas card; Elaine Newton-$50; three free bus passes went to: Wanda Reynolds, Donald Messerly, and Ted Kelly. There was a drawing for kids: Darius won the $25 gift certificate to Spare Change, and free passes went to Jordyn, Luliana, and Connor.

The Transit Authority is federally funded with matching grants; they have four employees and keep nine members on the board.
