Lady Mavericks Win Three More!

Last regular season game to be held in Saco

The North Country Mavericks Volleyball team picked up a trio of wins this past weekend.

The team first defeated the Harlem Wildcats in Whitewater 3-0, on Thursday, October 13. They then went to Grenora, ND, on Friday, October 14, to face the MonDak Thunder, and won 3-0. The next day, Saturday, October 15, the Mavericks then faced the Culbertson Cowgirls in Culbertson and won 3-1.

North Country's last game of the regular season will take place in Saco, as the team is scheduled to face the Nashua Porcupines. The event starts at 5 p.m.

In the win over Class B's Harlem Wildcats, the scores were 25-17, 25-19, and 25-16.

The Mavericks were led by Paige Wasson who had a double-double consisting of 13 kills and 14 assists. Teagan Erickson led in kills with 14. Erickson also had six assists, and one block. Kendall Scheffelmear had eight kills and one block.

Kora LaBrie had 11 digs and tied teammate Cienna Strommen with four aces. Kennedy Simonson had 11 assists.

"This match was the best match we have put together so far this season from the start to the finish," Mavericks Coach Charlene Wasson said. "Our setters did a good job of mixing up the sets and getting hitters the ball where they needed it."

The scores in North Country's victory over MonDak were 25-21, 30-28, and 25-16.

Erickson had 21 kills and one block. Wasson had 25 assists and 11 kills. Simonson had seven assists.

"In this match, we looked like we just took a very long bus ride to North Dakota, got off, and tried to play," Coach Wasson said. "MonDak is extremely good from the service line which is their strength and it exposed our weakness of passing. After we settled in and got our passing down, then our game came around in the third set and we looked like our Thursday night match."

The Mavericks lost the opening set of their match 21-25 against Culbertson, but came back and won the final three sets 25-21, 25-19, and 25-16.

Erickson led the Mavericks with 24 kills and 11 digs. P. Wasson had 22 assists and 15 kills. P. Wasson and Simonson both had four aces. Simonson had 14 assists.

BaiLee McColly and Mattea McColly each had two blocks.

"Going into the match I knew this was going to be a battle," Coach Wasson said. "After the first set when we lost, we said we are only beating ourselves out there and we fixed some communication and passing errors. We got into a better flow. At the end of the second set we had an injury, that we had to make some adjustments. I was super proud of the kids who stepped into those roles, played confident and got us a victory."
